I have been taking my cats to Abbott Valley for all their medical care for over eight years. During that time, I have dealt with several serious medical issues as well as basic well visits. The care my cats have received is unsurpassed.
Every member of the staff is compassionate and caring. They truly love animals and love caring for them. Dr. Mowry in particular, has given us excellent treatment. He always has time to answer all my questions, and is gentle and patient with my cats. I highly recommend this entire practice.
Dr. Joyce Gifford, DVM, and the professional staff at the AVVC, have been caring for my dogs since 1995. During our many years of association, Dr. Gifford has provided not only wellness care such as annual physical exams, inoculations, vaccinations, dental cleanings and extractions, but also “mystery” illness care. My first dog, who was a puppy when we first met Dr. Gifford, developed several of these mysterious illnesses during her life (1995-2010); and Dr. Gifford diagnosed and successfully treated and stabilized her. She had a good quality of life as a result of Dr. Gifford’s attention and expert care.
The two dogs I have now, both rescue and adults, have issues too; Dr. Gifford has again handled these illnesses with professionalism and has taken the time to educate me so that I am a good pet parent partner. What have I taken away myself from our relationship with the AVVC?
- Peace of Mind from the wellness and illness care Dr. Gifford gives my dogs;
- Complete Trust and Confidence in her professional expertise resulting from her diagnosis and successful treatment of mystery ailments that occur;
- Appreciation for Dr. Gifford’s persistence in researching symptoms and arriving at effective treatment;
- Gratitude for Dr. Gifford’s and each staff member’s compassion, kindness and generosity with their Empathy in difficult situations (i.e., end of life; terminal illness);
- Admiration for Dr. Gifford’s positive relationship with each of my dogs. While they don’t like being stuck with needles, each of my girls has come to trust Dr. Gifford and don’t show any aggression towards her or her very capable and kind Vet Techs.
I would recommend the AVVC to any pet parent who wants expert, excellent care for their pets and who wants peace of mind resulting from that care.

Abbott Valley Veterinary Center has absolutely exceptional Veterinary care and I believe is one of the best veterinary offices in the state! Abbott Valley truly cares about your pet! I believe it was because of Dr Gifford’s excellent knowledge and experience, my dog was able to live a longer happier life. Dr Gifford didn’t rest until we had exhausted all humane therapies available not only in RI but also at Tufts as she is a Tufts alumnus and has the availability and knowledge of all the highest quality veterinary medicine available today.
When any other vet would have just given up, she gave us options. Dr Gifford and her team believe in helping animals with a goal of better quality life and not just quantity of life. What more could you want from anyone taking care of your loved one? I would recommend Abbott Valley to everyone looking for a great vet no matter your distance.

Nikita, my 15yr old Shepherd/Sharpie mix, has been a patient at AVVC for over 13yrs. Dr Gifford and her staff are very professional, personable and competent. After all this time they feel like family to us. It’s obvious that Veterinary care is more than just a business to them; they really do care.

I switched from my veterinarian to Abbott Valley Vet. about 18 months ago, primarily for my convenience. After just my first visit I knew I had made the right choice as I found all the staff there friendly and above all my appointment time was kept and Biscuit (my dog) and I were out in no time.
I do not have even a half-bad thing to say about the place and I now have two dogs who are going there as I trust that this is where they will get the best treatment for all that life will throw their way.
