About Us
The Abbott Valley Veterinary Center, Inc. was founded in 1994 by Joyce R. Gifford D.V.M. The practice has grown from one doctor in 1994 to its current three doctors supported by ten full and part time employees. In 1994 the practice was located in a leased 1440 sq foot space.
In 2003 it was relocated to a state of the art 4000 sq. foot facility with three exam rooms, a light filled, comfortable waiting room and a large efficient treatment, surgery and recovery area.
The Center’s goal is to provide clients and their pets with outstanding quality veterinary care in a clean, comfortable and compassionate setting. We strive to achieve this goal by demanding the highest professional standards of our veterinarians and support staff. We offer wellness and preventative medicine including a vaccine program that takes into account the individual needs of the patients. We also offer comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care for our sick and critically ill patients including extended hospitalization, radiology, in-house laboratory, cardiology, surgery, dentistry and ultrasound imaging. We are committed to making certain that our clients are offered the best possible treatment options for their pets. Our ultimate goal is to provide expert guidance and care that will allow pet owners to make the best decisions for their beloved pets when they are young as well as sick or injured. After all, we recognize that our patients are truly members of the family.
What to Expect Upon Your Arrival:
Clients are greeted by a welcoming, friendly front desk staff. Their purpose is to ensure that you and your pet have a comfortable and safe visit. We know that vet visits can be stressful for pets, as well as their owners, so we do everything possible (including handing out lots of pet treats) and offering comforting words as soon as you walk in the door. If you are a new client you will fill out a new client form.
If you are an existing client you will be asked for an updated address and phone number. While you are waiting we have a large, light filled waiting room and offer an array of retail products for sale. We also have PetTV available for viewing while you wait which provides informative videos related to various pet health issues.
Once you are escorted to an exam room you will be greeted by one of our qualified Veterinary Technicians who will help you navigate through your appointment. They will ask the reason for your visit, weigh your pet and sometimes take vital signs. They will then get a brief history. If your pet requires blood work they may draw the sample. If you have any previous records from another veterinarian you can give them to the technician so they may make copies for the Doctor to review.
The Doctor will come in and perform a full physical exam on your pet. A technician will restrain your pet at this time. The Doctor will then make recommendations regarding diagnosis, treatment and further testing if necessary. You will be provided an estimate for any extensive services that are recommended. If your pet is to be admitted they will go over procedures and protocols at that time.
